you should be able to use copy and paste method. What OS are you using?

Use Windows media player to make a play list.

You just add the tracks to your library in media player from the file menu.

If you try copy and paste it normally only copies the shortcut to the track on the cd.

No I mean copy and paste the audio tracks on the music cd?

Windows cannot see the audio tracks on a standard audio CD.

If you look at the tracks on the CD you will see thay are all the same size, and way too small to be the actual tracks. What Windows sees are the index files (named xxx.cda).

Copy/Paste will only copy these index files.

Specialist software is required to extract the audio files from the CD's non-PC file format.

WMP can play audio CDs, and can copy these to the PC, but only in "cda" or "wma" format.

Much better to get software to record or convert to mp3 format (WMP requires a plug-in to handle this).

Take a look at click here - its one of many around, I have used it for 3 years now, and I like it because it can "record" from audio CDs, Line In (for vinyl), AND convert to mp3 in one pass. You can try out the basic version (free download)

Benefits of mp3 ? Smaller file sizes, around 90% space is saved. Will load directly into portable mp3 players.

You need to getclick here and play the music files in media player....TT

click here for a free mp3 converter, once you have converted the tracks, they are stored on your pc in a folder, you can then play them with a media player. As daba says they are a lot smaller files.
