Transfer wizard

Hi All,
I used the transfer wizard on my old computer running windows XP Pro. and stput it on an external hard drive.
When I tried to put all my folders and settings onto my new computer running windows the easy transfer facility, it cannot read the files as they are .DAT files
Yet when I checked the external hard drive on the old computer everything was as it should be.
Can anybody help?
Cheers, Flobby

Unfortunately I have cleaned my old computer and given it away. So I need to be able to transfer the folders and settings from the external hard drive, which seem to have changed to .DAT files and my new computer will not recognise.Cheers, Flobby

You will have to borrow your old computer and restore the files to that. Then follow the instructions. Vista can't read them on the external drive using the easy transfer wizard. .dat files are data files of many different types.

Thank you Graham, I will do that tonight when I get home from work,
Thanks again. Flobby
