Same computer my friend woodchip.

How many times are we allowed to Activate. This is a new CD of XP Pro with SP3

If its a Legal copy of the O/S placed onto the original computer it was used on I cannot see any problem.

Putting it on another system would be another matter

If activation should fail you would get the option to activate by phone. where Microsoft will deal with your question and advise steps on how to make it legal

Hi sharpamat, Yes, it's a Legal Copy of XP Pro with SP3 which I bought recently from ebuyer to put on the computer.

I don't mind activating again if it allows. I believe even a Legal Copy you can activate only once. Is that right.

As I'm having some problems with a Disc Read Error each time I bootup and I have done everything advised to do to no success. I though it would be best to Format & reinstall.

Make sure your router or Modem is connected switch on when you load windows and it should auto activate

No that's not correct. You can activate many times on the same computer.

If you have substantially upgraded your system, you may have to 'phone MS - but in my experience they never refuse to help you re-activate.

You should not have any problems whatever.
You might be thinking of activation problems when people try and install OEM and upgrade disks onto other PC's etc... that will cause activation failure but no way when you have the original disc and are using the same PC.
Format and reinstall definitely best :)
