I am having problems with my laptop. I play a dvd on it and after approx 30mins, the computer just turns itself off. It won't allow me to turn it back on for a while, and when it does come back on 3 pop up windows come up saying an error has occurred...loose wire connection.

Does it feel especially warm after 30 mins. playing a DVD?
When it has turned off, and you turn it back on again, how long before it shuts down for a second time?

Yes it does feel hot by the power switch!normally i leave it for quite a while then turn it back on and then it's still about 30mins before it turns off, but if i do turn it back on after perhaps 10mins it tends to turn itself off pretty quickly any ideas?

Try running PC Wizard click here Amongst other things it measures temperature at various places around your computer (that depends upon which sensors are actually wired up by the manufacturer). Should show CPU and memory - on a desktop also Power Supply.

Measure the temperatures with your laptop under normal use, then measure after say 10, 20, 30 minutes of DVD play.

Should show you if you are overheating.

Intel CPU's turn off at about 100 deg C.

Just checked my Toshiba laptop in 'steady state' web browsing:

PC Wizard 2006 shows:

Processor 51 deg C
Main Board 47 deg C
Hard Disk 36 deg

Sounds like the Power switch may be arcing. As there should not be heat there, Looks like a Bench Repair job

I've now run PC Wizard and a commercial DVD for 10 minutes (and you get a constant monitor top right of the screen if not in full screen):

CPU Speed: 1.8GHz (it's a mobile Intel)
CPU Temp: 54 deg C (so up a small amount from 51)
CPU Usage: varies from 20% to 80% depending upon screen activity.
