Tiscali Broadband Problems

  ramsay29 14:45 25 Oct 2005

Received modem etc yesterday. Sagem modem. all I get is flashing ASDL light and no dial tone error when trying to connect. Also get USB Bandwidth error. Have no ther USB devices fitted. BT say line is okay, Tiscali responded to this by putting a new modem in the post for me, this time a "Speedtouch".

While I am waiting for this modem to arrive, has anyone else had similar problems, and if you resolved it ... how? Will the "Speedtouch" make a difference? How is it different from the Sagem?

I run windows XPhome on my PC.

Did you follow the installation instructions exactly?

The most important thing is to install the drivers BEFORE connecting the modem to the USB port.

Hi Jackcoms
Yes followed instructions to the letter. Uninstalled and reinstalled, even downloaded new drivers all to no avail.

Have you got ADSL filters on EVERY phone socket in the house which has something attached to it?

  splork 15:03 25 Oct 2005

Did Tiscali give you a date and time saying when your ADSL would be activated? Do you actually hear a dialtone when you pick up a phone connected to the same line?

Were you on a dial up ISP, have you uninstalled their software completely?

Also go to internet options in control panel, under connection, tick the never dial a connection box and give it another go.

Do as Jackcoms suggested, always install ISP's ADSL software first before plugging the modem in.

Jackcoms - yes fully filtered.

Splork - Line is activated - yes I do hear a dialtone.

retep888 - Was on pay as you go dialup with Tiscali but connection was set up by myself. haven't checked the internet options as suggested. will look at it tomorrow as the pc is in my office.

Thanks for the feedback.

A dialup connection will make no difference to your Tiscali broadband service - just set, despite Tiscali's advice to the contrary, the broadband connection as your default.

I have a Tiscali BB, Tiscali dialup (now PAYG) and a Pipex dialup connection.

I use an ISP as necessary (BB is default) and just change to the dialup ISP I wish to use in the Connection box's drop down menu.

Tiscali use SpeedTouch 330 and the Sagem F@ST 800 E2T modems. Both good units, but watch out for possible disconnections with the SpeedTouch. This fault usually occurs with low power input and VIA/SIS mobo chipsets.Best to connect either of the modems direct via the computer usb outlet, and not through other devices, if you haven't already done that.

Sorry to disagree but I have a Speedtouch 330 and I've never experienced any disconnections (unless I've initiated it). I wouldn't have any other modem at the moment. My personal opinion is that it is rock solid.

Thanks Folks
I will respond again when the "Speedtouch" arrives and let you know how I get on.
