Three beeps

  mosstoe 11:25 10 Nov 2006

Hi there,

I switched my PC on from the back last night, then I pressed the 'on' button on the front and it beeped three times and didn't boot up.

Is there a reason for this?

Thanks in advance

Take a look here click here, on the right select the mobo bios from the 'bios beep codes' box.

From the info you have given it is differcult to give a dianosis, but if the 3 beeps were 1 long and 2 short beeps, this usually indicates a prob with the systems video.

If this is the case, try re-seating the cable from the monitor to the video card, if that dosen't work, open up the case and reseat the video card (they can, over time, work loose).

Hope this helps.

You don`t say which motherboard or BIOS you have.

Look click here at the list and identify your board/BIOS and it should tell you what the beeps mean.

AMI BIOS 3 beeps means a memory problem. In this case the first thing to try is to remove, clean and reseat the module(s).

It could be a memory problem. click here for information about all the error codes. Yours should be in the AMI bios section.
