Third Hard Drive

Can I fit a 3rd Hard Drive to my Sony Vaio. I already have 2 X 120Gb drives but required a third for back up.
Can I remove the floppy to take the hard drive?

Your board should have two IDE channels, with two IDE devices supported on each channel, usually 2 HDDs and DVD rom and DVD RW

If you only have 1 DVD drive then you have a spare socket on the IDE chale toplugin a HDD drive (yes they will fit where a Floopy is mounted).

If no spare IDE socket then you need an IDE controller card to fit in an empty PCI slot.

if your Vaio is reasonably new it may have sata on board and you can fit a sata drive.

The easiest way is to buy an external drive and plug it into a USB port.

I agree with Fruit Bat /\0/\, but a slightly cheaper option is to use a usb caddy that you can fit an internal hdd into. The beauty of this system is that you can swap drives in the caddy and so have as many or few backup drives as you want, and they are cheaper to buy than a standard ext hdd.
