  erkmatrix 16:11 01 Feb 2004

I have posted yesterday about my machine going all weird where it won't let me click on a hyperlink and just sticks well now its doing other strange thing like when I click on a normal webpage it starts to connect me to this porn site and this dialler flashes up, just thinking now if this is the reason that somehow through a virus or however I don't know how these things work someone has got this crapy software put on my computer thats completly screwed with my explorer and XP.

Is there anything I could try to see if theres some unwanted software been put on my machine.

Spybot is what you need mate.

Once you have downloaded it then first update it by clicking the 'ONLINE' button and get the latest updates.

Go back to the top button 'SPYBOT S&D'and click on 'SEARCH & DESTROY' > 'CHECK FOR PROBLEMS'

Once it's done it's job and you have removed all references go to 'IMMUNIZE' in the same menu and it'll then go through it's routine until a large green tick appears.

Lower down click on the drop down and select 'BLOCK ALL BAD PAGES SILENTLY'

You should then be safe in future but don't forget to update it regularly.

I went to that link above and downloaded spyhunter where it came up with two files called search Ex.. as the parasite. The object name was AcrolEhelper.A and the other one is the same name in my registry and says that they are a severe danger warning .

Spybot I tryed didn't come up with these at all and to get rid of them with Spyhunter you need to buy the full edition of it , just wondered if these files are OK and spyhunter just say that to get you to buy the software.

Anyway the problem with my computer not opening hyperlinks is still there, spybot did locate some 15 things on my machine could one of these have altered my registry and scewed up my machine so now it doesn't work properly or don't they have the capabilities to mess with the registry and alter things.

What should I do please

acroiehelper is part of Acrobat Reader so should not be harmful - in fact you could make things worse by removing it.

I would let Spybot delete everything it found.

Did you try Ad-aware - that spots things that Spybot misses and vice versa.

yeah I tryed ad-aware the other day thanks VoG

So could it have been something that had got on my computer stopped my explorer opening hyperlink and screwed with my search feature and system restore.

  VoG II 22:37 01 Feb 2004

Yes it is possible. Search and System Restore use bits of Internet Explorer so they could all "go down" together.

Its done it again , used all the ad aware software and the spybot to get rid of nuisance things on my machine and just gone to click open homepage which is always on and it now has been changed again by something to click here whatever that is.

What can be causing this and is there anything else I should try cause ad aware and spybot must be missing this.
