Is there a virus program built into Win XP Home

  Daveson 21:29 17 Aug 2004

Hi there. I am running Win XP Home and also Norton Anti Virus 2003. The problem is that Auto Protect isnt working. When i click turn Auto Protect on it just does nothing. A lad i know says that a virus is in the PC and stopping this from working. Any truth in that ?

Is there a seperate program that i could run to search for any such virus. Or is there a virus program to download. I am on dial up so just a small program will be nice. Cheers. Hope that you can help.

Is there a red X through the NAV icon by the clock? If there is, try un-installing and re-installing Norton AV, In fact I would do the above anyway

The Cd will have to be in the drive by the way to remove NAV.

For three alternatives to MWAV toolkit, much smaller so can be fitted to a floppy, but obviously check for much smaller range of nasties.

Well What could one say to the question other than NO.

There is a AV protecting you CMOS if it's switched on in the BIOS
