Temp file causing problems

I am having a problem with a temp file. Whenever I turn on my PC, within 60 seconds I get a message saying "Explorer has caused an error in ~8688723572.tmp. Explorer will now close" and then all my icons disappear from the screen and there's nothing for me to do but use CTRL ALT DELETE to close the PC. I've downloaded a Clean-up program from the internet which shows this file as one which is unnecessary and can be deleted, but when I try to delete it I can't until Explorer has closed. Each time I have managed to delete it, it reappears when I turn the PC back on again. Obviously the file is being created on start-up, but I don't know what is creating it, or why its now causing errors. Can anyone help me please? I am using Windows ME.

Your problem is almost certainly caused by spyware or another malware. Try downloading and running AdAware from click here and Spybot SD from click here.

Thank you both for your replies. I have installed Adaware and it has solved the problem. You are brilliant!
