Telephone Answering on my PC.

Can I set up an answering service on my PC? If so, what hardware/software do I need?
(Hopefully) is there any free software around?
Grateful for any help.

You will, of course, need a dialup fax/data modem.

Yes by using a Dial-Up Modem and click here

your PC will need to run whenever you are out of the house (or 24/7) and the (every) last person out of the house will need to be able to activate your Answering Service.

Bitware can be set to auto, but program as to be left running

Thanks everybody. Loads of good info. I've still got my old 56K modem from dial-up days, so thats a start.
I'm not too sure about wanting to leave my PC running, so I'll probably scrap the idea and just buy an answer machine. I'll think about it. Thanks a lot for the help though, much appreciated.
