Techie help with using CAT5 cable for Broadband

  Mark-335400 16:48 03 Aug 2006

I am quite far from the exchange and suffer "long line loss" at peak times. If I move the ADSL modem from the back bedroom to the BT Master socket and plug it in the test socket I can keep my Broadband connected but if I either plug an extension lead in or reconnect the master socket so that the extensions are active again I lose the connection. BT have suggsested replaceing my internal extension wiring with CAT5 cable or have have my broadband speed reduced to half. As I have access to a large roll of CAT5 cable I thought I would try this first. Can any techies suggest which colours to use on which pins and as the extension to the rear bedroom is only used for broadband which pins need NOT to be connected (ie the ringer wire)
