system32 error

  jerryj 21:57 09 May 2003

I installed norton antivirus 2003. When it did a virus scan it found a lot of infected files. The next time I started my computer an error came up saying Windows cannot find C\WINDOWS\System32\cmd32.exe. I have run norton utilities and it came up with nothing. I tryed restoring it from virus files but it just deleated them. ANY CLUES THANK YOU...

You have had a W32.KWbot.C.Worm that has changed some of your registry lines and has left one or two still in the registry probbaly under your RUN keys. Go to start-run and type regedit. Go to edit-find and type in cmd32.exe. Delete any entries that you find. Natch you would be wise to backup your registry first or set a system restore point just in case ;-))

If rooting in your registry is an anathema to you have a look here
