System Upgrade

Currently have Gateway Select 1300M using Windows ME.

Athlon 1.3 Ghz Processor with 384kb cache;
Via kit 133 Chipset;
512mb memory;
60gb Quantum hard drive;
32mb nVidia M64 Graphics card;
v.90 56k data/fax/voice modem;
4 USB ports;
5 PCI & 1AGP expansion slots &
Creative 1373 value sound card all in 330 watt ATX tower.

Looking to upgrade processor to AMD 64 4000, graphics card to ATI Radeon X850 & internal modem to accept ADSL.

Possibly will increase memory and HD size as well as looking at new internal DVDRW.

Want to purchase components myself but not sure how to install.

Are there any companies out there who could help ?

Have I omitted anything (eg new motherboard, chipset etc) ?

Your advice gratefully received.

by the time you've bought all that, you will need a better psu, the only "original" bits left will be the case!!!

better off buying a totally new computer (possibly excluding monitor, keyboard and mouse). You will find it cheaper as well!

maybe try Dell

I would doubt very much whether your motherboard could accept an AMD64 4000 or even the new type of memory it would need. A better idea would be to start from scratch and keep your old Gateway for playing about on. Even your case may not be good enough (no of case fans) a 4000 puts out a lot of heat.
