Win Key + R (Run) then MSCONFIG & Enter and in the Startup tab, deselect everything except your AV / security products.

When you next reboot, tick the box saying "don't tell me again" & press OK.

Check the startup panel again after every new installation.

Go to Start> Run > and type msconfig and hit Enter. Click on the Start Tab and untick any program you do not want to appear in your tray. Apply and reboot. You will get a warning notice when Windows loads. Tick the box "Do not show me this again"

A box came up saying

An access was denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. you must log on using an administrators account to make any changes.

What doe all this mean please.

  rawprawn 09:04 01 May 2008

Are you the Administrator? if not you cannot change the settings.

I just clicked OK on it and it worked fine.
Only deselected a few to begin with and it loads so much faster.

Found a good link here if anyone's interested.

Many thanks.
