System Restore slow to open

Exploring System Restore in Vista Premium I find that takes several minutes to open, with much disk activity. The restore points seem to be present, although I've not needed to actually carry out a restore. Is this usual? Many thanks.

How many drives are you having System Restore manage? I have now reduced mine down to just my C: drive, as I see no real point in system restore tracking my Recovery drive, or my large External drive.

It can take a while but it might be worth testing to see if it actually works.

Put a 'new' folder on your desktop and call it 'test'

Manually set a restore point and call it test.

Delete the 'test' folder.

Open system restore and select 'test' and then run it.

If it works, when your PC reboots the 'test' folder will be back!

Many thanks to you both.

Rawprawn: I'm managing just the C: drive.

Pine Man: a useful suggestion - I'll give it a go.

I've just noticed that, after the delay in opening System Restore, closing it then reopening a few minutes later is instantaneous.

Once again, thanks.
