System restore problems

  led light 12:16 22 Jul 2005

When trying to load new software (MS Autoroute and Roxio) the system begins to run setup, but once the installing software screen appears it hangs.
It is also doing this with MS auto updates, it will download ok but hangs when the update trys to run.The screen then locks up and I have to use task manager to quit the programme.
Advised by MESH to ‘turn off system restore’
With system restore turned off everything else works, start up is quicker and I can install software updates.
Turn system restore back on and it Hangs up.
I have tried reinstalling ‘SR.INI’ file, no change.
Has anyone got any ideas? I would prefer to have SR running

I never have System Restore switched on I think it uses too many resources and IMO is not that good.

I prefer to use Ghost and make a backup as and when I need to.

I find that System restore never works for me when I really need it, and I have learnt to not rely upon it, and also use Ghost which never fails.

Thanks for the advice. As everything else work ok without SR running I'll leave it off and get alternative backup installed.
