System Restore

Although the system restore is a great thing on XP, it seems to build up to many restore points. Windows defender alone makes three or four a day. This of course slows down the computer sometimes to a crawl. How can I get rid off all restore points except the last, or at least the last half a dozen? I have reduced by half the amount of space available for System restore.

To remove all Restore Points except the most recent , do the following :

Click Start, Run and type CLEANMGR and press Enter

Select the hard disk partition and press OK
At the top of the dialog, click the tab More Options

Under System Restore section, click the button "Clean up..."

Like many, I create regular system disk images (using Acronis or the like) and turn System Restore off altogether.

For the quick response. I will have a go at that later. I have never used Acronis, and would probably forget to create images. Worth a look though...

Better to use something like Acronis and be sure you have got a restore file than rely on System Restore only to find that when you need it most it doesn't work!
