My sister has just brought her old laptop round (hi grade) and on boot up it says system not found.

It also says a few other things like check cable?

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks any help appreciated.

Is there any valuable data on the laptop?

If not, you can try a full system recovery. Usually pressing F10 when the laptop is booting will bring up the necessary options. G

Has the laptop been dropped? Try re-seating the hard drive.

That means the hard drive is not connected properly or not functioning at all. With the laptop turned off & battery disconnected, remove the hard drive & replace it. Then check if there's any change.

To check the drive, you can remove it, place it in a suitable external USB container & connect it to a working PC/laptop. More on this if the above doesn't work. G

Thanks. I haven't got a screwdriver to do that now. I will post the results when I get the tools...thanks much appreciated.

Than you for your help Crossbow7.

It turns out she dropped it. Anyway, I took of the back and the hardrive was lose. I screwed it down with one of the screws off the panel, same fit, and it works now.

Thanks :)
