System Hanging

Hi

Ive noticed my PC hanging lately over last few weeks, especially at startup.

Only Zone Alarm SS is set to load at startup.

Im running Vista HP with all MS updates installed. AMD 2.6GHZ Processor, and 4MB of RAM.

Ive ran all the usual virus and malware checks and all is clear.

Ive checked Event Viewer I see an error every 2 minutes or so. Error message with red exclamation is:

'The Windows Search Service has failed to create the SystemIndex search index. Internal error 1, 0x800700b7, Failed to add Gather Application: Windows>.'

After this warning icon shows error message:

'The Windows Search Service is attempting to remove the old catalog.'

Next another warning icon shows message:

'The Windows Search Service has successfully removed the old catalog.'

Then error message with red exclamation is shown again:

'The Windows Search Service has failed to create the SystemIndex search index. Internal error 1, 0x800700b7, Failed to add Gather Application: Windows>.'

This sequence of messages shows through Event Viewer on an almost minutely cycle.

Could this be what is causing the PC to hang? Anyone any thoughts?

Thanks

Check in Services to see how Indexing Services is set if it is anything other than 'Disabled' disable it. This action may stop the errors in Event Viewer.

If you still get the errors after disabling this service click here and enter the event 'ID number' and 'source' to track further troubleshooting options.

Hi recap

I've gone into Computer Management and selected Services. Theres no Indexing Services listed. Under 'I' there is:

Interactive Services Detection
Internet Connection Sharing
IP Helper
iPod Service
IPSec Policy Agent

No Indexing Services listed. Could it be under a heading as a sub heading?

Thanks for the website you suggested. Unfortunetely it didnt turn up anything.

The 'Event ID' is 1006 and the 'Source' is Search.

Thanks for your help so far.

Anyone any other other thoughts or suggestions?

Regards

Si67
