Syntax Error During Modem Installation

My Dad is trying to install a new Netgear ADSL 2 Ethernet Modem and get the following on the scren:

NIC Helper Internal Error


Syntax error in automat files MH state.INF

Can anyone help?

When does he get that error , at what stage ? Is he using a set up disk ?

Didn't load a driver for that specific NIC card check device manager network connection and update the driver for the network card

When he puts the CD in and the wizard starts that is when he gets the box on


He cannot connect to the internet!!

Have you /he tried accessing the router by the much better method of typing into the address bar of your browser , then you get the user name and password request , type in admin for the user , and password , for the password , press enter and you are in the set up pages , enter your ISP details ( user name and password for Internet ) and then click on " connect " providing it connects Ok , save the settings and try connecting wirelessly , if that is Ok , go back in to the settings and enable some wireless encryption .

Can I ask , is your father setting it up using an Ethernet cable or is he trying with wireless ?

Ethernet cable - he only has one PC so no need for wireless

Yes he can if he was using dial up before connect dial up modem to phone line and download the correct driver
