Sync 2 PC's over internet

To avoid carrying my desktop replacement laptop home every weekend I'm considering having a second PC at home and synchronizing them while I travel. There is no network at either end. I want to feel like it's the same PC, whichever one I sit down at. 1. What is the most suitable program for doing this? 2. How do I handle the security issues? 3. I'm thinking about sofware licences. Should I buy retail versions as opposed to pre-installed versions? I think most allow installation on 2 PC's, but not if pre-installed 4. Obviously I need broadband at both ends. 5. Would it be simpler and or cheaper to carry an external hard disc between the 2 PC's? I would prefer not as I can never spare any time waiting for syncing. I'm sure there are other issues. Has anyone any suggestions please?

Get a 1gb usb flash drive and a program like karens replicator - it will do the job the easiest.

If you need access to each PC at the same time, something like Symantec PC Anywhere will be a better option.
