sygate personal firewall

  Smokeyone 06:55 02 Nov 2005

I use sygate personal firewall (freebie) but am a little tired of switching off block traffic from normal to off everytime I need to send an e-mail or just starting to connect to the net.
I can switch it back on once I am connected though.
Tools/Options says I need to purchase the pro version.
Any suggestions please for an alternative that might give me less hassle.

You can tell Sygate what programs to allow access to - your browser and email client for a start.

Then they will always have access.

open sygate and select applications then tick the ones you want to allow without prompt and job done.

I used Sygate on my old computer [Windows 98] and I would now like to know if I need to use this with XP, as this has a Firewall. Will the two work together?

Hope to go braodband soon, and read that there is a firewall built into the modem or something, so would I then have three? Will these conflict?

yattonharry - if not too late, install sygate and disable the windows firewall.
