I wish to swop hard drives but i have a couple of questions about the procedure first so i get it right. The hard drive with XP operating system on it at the moment is a 40 gig cut in half on a fat 32 file sytem. The second hard drive is also a 40 gig but it is sitting on a NTFS file system, i would like to transfer the operating system to the second drive.First question is how do i transfer all data from first drive without loosing updates, favourites, email addresses and users?question two if when i swop drives and data so i can remove partion and change file system on first drive, will i need to register and unlock windows XP again?

ever hopefull that this can be done.

thanks for any information anyone can give....Digger...

Use Norton Ghost, it will copy all of the 'c' drive onto the 2nd drive, you can then alter the drive positions of master and slave and rebbot.
It is also safer to place the 'new' drive as master on the 2nd ide channel in place of cd's to do this.

Once windows has loaded, format the other drive.

Maufacturer's of the hard discs have tools that will copy a disc to a disc.

It's free too!

Who is the manufacturer of you hard drive?

I have to say though, that i have never done it.
