switch off

When I start mycomputer fron scratch it reaches the welcome page then switches off and restarts. It may do this three times. I do not get a blue screen, just a message, The sysyem has recovered from a serious error. Anmy ideas?

Have you got Windows XP? Which service pack?

I downloaded but then my computer read that my service pack ios newer than the downlaod.

Until this problem is resolved ,a little trick is to create a new user <Control Panel->Users>.Use this new user to login then logout then login to the old user.

Check in the Device Manager that there are no driver problems.The problem is possilbly down to a start-up program.

Start>Run (type in word msconfig)>StartUp tab ,have a careful look at what is set to start.

I now get a blue page on startup with the words

I ran the repair installation and when I started my computer this morning ,up came the blue screen. I noticed I had been running on starting with a CD so I reverted to hard drive and I'll see about that.
One thing is, it only comes up when I start first thing which has made me wonder whether the fault is in the hardware, perhaps a faulty CPU.
