Hi, ive just had a new processor upgrade by a local computer tecknician,the problem is, the processor i purchased was a athlon xp 220 +,now i've got my computer back {it was taken away for the upgrade}when i go into system information, it say's my processor is a athlon xp1500+ ??.Have i been robbed?,or is there an explanation for this?.

check the fsb speed & multiplier in your bios, should be 133 & 13.5 for the correct cpu rating but it may be set at 100. techncian should have checked that really.

133mhz x 13.5 = 1795 (1800ghz)

I think if it is showing as 1500xp+, then that is what it is!

If a higher rated processor, such as 1800 or 2000 had been fitted but clocked wrong it would show as the speed in mhz rather than model no.

It will tell you what fsb and multiplier you are running at.

As already mentioned, an XP2200+ should be at 13.5 x 133 = 1.8GHz

Chances are, they guy hasn't set up your bios right = bad.

Or, less likely, you have been given the wrong CPU = very bad

What motherboard and CPU did you have before? You may need a BIOS update to use a faster CPU. But again, the shop should know this and have done it.
