Check add/remove in control panel for IWantSearchBar. Remove it if found.
Download malwarebytes, antimalware; click here .
Again choose safe mode (without internet connection) and run full scan. Takes a bit of time but worth it.

will the free trail version do the job or do i need to buy?

  Hetti 18:39 07 Mar 2009

rdave
forgot to say it is not listed in add/remove programes

  rdave13 18:39 07 Mar 2009

Free trial version is fine. Just make sure you manually update before scanning.

Nothing showing in 'all programs' as being new? This bug is the type that's not supposed to be a nasty and you allowed to download. The usual crap if you will please mind my language.
Also run your anti virus program while you're in safe mode.

If that fails then I can only suggest disabling system restore and running SAS and Malwarebytes again in safe mode (without internet connection).
It's frowned on to disable sys restore as it's better to have an infected restore point rather than nothing. Sometimes these malware situate at these restore points.
To disable sys restore; click here

Once the PC is free of the malware remember to re-instate sys. restore.
