If you do a search, you will find lots of threads on this subject.

Anyway, as always I suggest Avast from click here

Free for the home user, auto updates and ann overall excellent utility.

Depends what you are looking for. If a free try Anti Vir, Avast or AVG.

If you are willing to pay then Kaspersky, NOD 32, Anti Vir premium, Dr Web etc. Also have a look at Prevx1.

With Diodorus Siculus here. Used Avast! for years (the free version) with no problems. Initially started with Norton and had problems, then with AVG and had problems and settled with Avast.

Very unwise if you've removed Norton and now running without any anti-virus software.

Get something installed pdq. Otherwise you'll end up with a lot more than you want in your computer.

I use both Avast (free) and AVG (free) "on different computers" I really coudn't say which one is better they are both good and update automatically, either would be good.

thank you everyone, and happy halloween!

Can't fault NOD32, doesn't slow my computer down, updates more than frequently and, if you utilise the 'extra settings' from click here
it seems to cover all the options automatically.

IN my opinion you only really get what you pay for , free is Ok but the protection isn't that great , but , for a payment less that many others you can have the best Antivirus that you can get at the moment from the website that Brumas suggested . They also have a suite coming out soon with Firewall and antispyware as well .
