Sudden Shutdown

  Nickoftime 09:37 13 Oct 2006

Since installing a new MB/CPU combo (ASUS A7V600-x plus Athlon XP3200) and a 450W Power supply my PC regularly shuts down abruptly (no BSOD etc). I wondered if this was due to overheating but the ASUS probe monitoring utility shows the temp to be way below the thresholds for MB & CPU. (I can't find any BIOS setting to alter the CPU/MB temp thresholds in case they are set lower there and are overriding the Probe's thresholds). The CPU Fan runs at ~ 2900 revs. However if I don't use the Probe's Software Cooling option it seems to crash more frequently. Other symptoms are:
1.I have to switch the mains plug off & on again in order to get the PC to respond to the master on/off switch after a crash.
2. When it crashes the LED which indicates standby power available on the MB is still alight - although maybe this is powered by the on-board battery & is not relevant to the problem ?
Grateful for any suggestions, folks

Sounds like your PSU is on its way out - it also be your memory.
