Strange WMP 11 Problem

  Chris Webster 22:00 10 Dec 2006

I am experiencing a strange problem with WMP 11 although exactly the same problem occured with WMP 10 too.

WMP works without any problems until I shut it down and then try to relaunch it. When I double click to relaunch it it doesn't load up, I have to reboot my laptop to get WMP to launch again.

After a failed launch of WMP I looked in the Task Manager and it said that the CPU usage for WMP was 99% although I wasn't actually running on the screen. If I click on WMP in Processes and then click End Process the CPU usage returns to normal, plus I can then relaunch and use WMP without having to reboot my laptop.

I hope everything above makes sense.

I know it doesn't take any effort to stop it running through the Task Manager but I was just wondering if anyone else was having the same problem or if there was a fix available.

XP Home sp2, latest Java and Flash updates.

Cheers, Chris.

Check out which process WMP is running (threads) and see if you can pinpoint the problem; click here
