Strange panel popped up on the XP welcome screen

  PHOENIX51 20:43 10 Oct 2005

Just started to have a panel pop up on the
welcome screen....reads

The instruction at "0x......" referenced memory
at "0x000000000". The memory could not be read.
click OK to terminate the program
click CANCEL to debug the program

Has anyone out there got any idea what has happened?

Since I haven't been able to find much info on this at all , lets try the system file checker for starters , heres how

Click start , Click run.In the box type this text EXACTLY as I have given you here sfc /scannow

Note the gap or single space in between the sfc and the /

When you have typed this into the box click OK and let the system file checker do its job.It will check through all your files for any irregularities or corrupt entries. When this has finished restart your PC and let us know if this has helped.

Also, are you sure that it is not Lmcrypt.exe ?

Many thanks for taking the time to make suggestions.

curlylad - Unfortunately you're suggestion didn't
do anything....sfc /scannow did its thing and closed up restarted PC and problem panel still there.

VoG™ - You are quite right it is lmcrypt.exe
not Imcrypt as I originally said....Any clues?

Any further suggestions out there?

Start, Run, type

and click OK.

Click on the startup tab and look for anything like lmcrypt and untick it. OK your way out and you should be prompted to restart your PC.

When it restarts you will see a dire warning about being in selective startup mode. Just tick the box to not display this message again.

That should get rid of the error mesage. Have you installed any encryption software recently?
