Hi Could anyone tell me if they are having this problem when they launch OE6 or Windows Mail, when I click on the newsgroup bt.broadband.support I get the error below, but if I then click on the OK in the error box it then continues to download the headers. It is happening on all three of our machines (two with XP Pro and one with Vista) we have not changed anything here and it is driving us nuts.

My Router is a Netgear DG834G and has never given me any problems.

Error Message:

Configuration:
Account: news.btinternet.com
Server: news.btinternet.com
Protocol: NNTP
Port: 119

I also get this error almost every time I start OE6 or Win Live Mail

I also get this message when I sometimes open OE6

The host 'mail.btinternet.com' could not be found. Please verify that you
have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'colin.hawkes33', Server:
'mail.btinternet.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket
Error: 11004, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

I am a silver surfer and not too hot on techie terms so, any offers of a solution please try to make them in plain English.

Thanks in advance. Colin.

Usually caused by your antivirus or antispyware scanning emails, especially Nrton.

Try turning off e-mail scanning in these programs and see if it makes a difference.

Thanks for the replies I have checked all the settings on all three machines and everything is correct. I use Avast Antivirus and have turned off email scanning but am still getting the errors.

On the Servers Properties window have you made sure that "My server requires authentication" is ticked?
