Anyone know any FREE downloadable progs that I can install to stop a 13 year old searching for porn or for blocking certain sites? I know there is the option in windows but this seems to block everything and anything. Many thanks in advance.

The above prog looks like it could be your solution but 13 year old lads and searching for porn kind of go hand in hand. :)

The answer to that is, of course, No.

He will outwit the Parental Control in something between 2 hours and 2 weeks. Depending on his friends savvy and how many alternative sources of entertainment that he has available.

Perhaps, now is the time to do your "Birds and Bees" bit, at the same time explaining to him the security risks of many porn sites and directing him to some more salubrious locations.

In college we found it easy to get passed all the controls and firewalls they threw at us ;)

Best to educate him on the dangers and allow him some trust..... Just my humbe opinion, having 2 children of my own, that would be my approach. (when the time comes they're only toddlers now)

I suggest you remove is computer, or put it where you can see what he is using it for.

stop him from accessing the system (by password protecting it)... But the only problem is, you will have to change you password frequently to help you keep the password(s) harder to get and use ramdom charactors (symbols, numbers, letters and caps lock) in various ways to make it even harder to get...

But all of this is useless if he knows another account's password and if you keep forgetting the password yourself...

Even this wouldn't be "fool proof" and he COULD, in theory, "hack" the password...

but explain how to update the anti-spywear, virus protection etc and tell him if the pc gets 'broken' his pocket money will fix it.
