My Windows 2000 (NTFS) computer which had no sound. I loaded drivers for what appeared to be an on-board MPU-401 compatible sound device. Obviously the drivers were incorrect because on restarting I got the black STOP screen C000263. The STOP messages states that two sys files portcls.sys and ks.sys are unable to locate the entry point of ntoskrnl.exe.
As Windows won’t load, and selecting Safe Mode results in the black STOP screen, I am well and truly locked out.
A utility called readntsf.exe informed me that the ntoskrnl.exe file is compressed, which probably explains why it cannot find the entry point.
I put the drive as a slave into a Windows XP computer and I can see all the files. Would someone please tell me what to delete or change to stop it trying to load the duff sound drivers?
