startup, what is the minimum ?

when I run msconfig and look at all the programs that start up when windows is booting up what actualy is needed, as I have a few things that should not be hapening and dont know what should be there and what not. Could anybody tell me the minimum req.

The only items on my startup tab are AV and firewall.

You can untick everything in msconfig and the PC should boot okay- make a note of what is currently loading before unticking an item.

The absolute minimum depends on which OS you're using- Win XP?

The running processes can be viewed in Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del).

Which program/process are you concerned about?

every time I go on the Internet My Broadband conection is reporting up to 288kbps being uploaded and norton is dealing with failed or retuned mail that I have not sent, norton popups apear faster than I can click to close

Yo VOG, you,r the main man. Took your advice downloded the software and ran the search and it revealed a host of trojens and viruses, it seems to have done the trick.
