Startup at a specified time

  LaserSailor 09:35 30 Jul 2006

I have found various programmes that allow me to shutdown at a specified time BUT nothing that can switch it on / boot up at a specified time. Does anyone if it is possible and if there is a programme to do it ?

Thankyou in advance

The problem that you face is that when you turn off the pc, it is switched off. By definition, no program on the pc can switch it on again because they cannot run (the pc is switched off). The same will apply to Hibernate and Standby.

Some Bioses will allow certain events to bring a pc out of standby, e.g. awake on LAN, but you will usually need a network or similar to bring this about.

Even putting a timer in the mains supply to the pc will not work unless you also bypass the turn on switch.

Many thanks - I suspected it was a silly question !

Not so silly...

Turn on your computer for a convenient time automatically
Go to your Computer Setup (press Del when your PC is loading).
Go to “Power Management Setup” and enable “ PWron/Resume by alarm” and set date alarm and time alarm and then press F10 to save your change and turn off your pc.
On specified date and time, your pc will turn on
