Start, Run, type in

and click OK.

Look on the startup tab and untick those you don't want. Reboot.

If you don't recognise something in the list click here

If you want to completely remove items from the startup list, you can use RegSeeker, but use it cautiously click here

My friend is having problems with his computer runing slow. I checked his Task Manager and found his CPU usage at 100% with no programmes running,it appears that he has 25 exe. programmes running somewhere, can he clear any of these processess without any ill effects?
An example of some programmes are-----
Svchost.exe 3044kb
Svchost.exe 6508kb
Explorer.exe 3848kb
Avgcc.exe 3508kb
Winpin32.exe 3552kb
Winlogon.exe 3708kb
Any ideas what's happening?

terryp96, this is a useful site to see what background tasks are doing. Note that you have to be careful with the spelling, e.g. Svchost.exe is a legitimate Windows function, Svchosts.exe with the extra s is a virus.

explorer.exe is a vital part of Windows. avgcc is probably part of acg antivirus. winpin is a free pinball game, and so shouldn't be running until you want to play it.
