hi.when i disabled the startups not wanted, laptop started in original BOOT.INI
so i tried "selective startup", disabled not wanted in folder, then ticked boxes
under"selective startup", but on ticking "load startup items" it enabled them all again.
so it seems i can't disable certain startups

Do it with the Tools section of CCleaner instead; click here

It's not clear from the image but you can both disable and/or delete entries with CCleaner.

There are other better option than using msconfig Freeware programs like StartupCPL, WinPatrol, Autoruns and maybe a hundred others

This is one of the simplest and best of them

They allow you to control your start up programs without having to use the msconfig selective startup mode

but whatever the best method is to read startup options during program installation which mostly ask the question in a tick box like "do you want this application to run at startup" or words to this effect

Cheers HC
