hi everyone, my friend has windows xp and windows me setup as a dual boot, he done a system restore on xp, and when the computer reboots,it gets to the desktop and nothing else, no icons, just a bare desktop, any ideas. help on this one would be greatly appreciated. ger

Where did my icons go?
If all of your desktop icons are missing, right click on the Desktop, select Arrange Icons By, then select Show Desktop Icons

hi fruit bat, sadly, right clicking or left clicking on the desktop does not get a responce. he has no icons or taskbar, the only thing moving is the mouse. the system boots but that is all that happens. ger

Try creating a Boot Floppy by copying the following files.

Boot.ini
Ntdetect.com
Ntldr.com

You will need to set the system to show system files & Hidden files .Insert Floppy,Set the machine to boot, and if the XP system is intact it will boot your machine.
