Starting computer without a keyboard, possible?

  trevpearson 09:40 12 Sep 2004

Computer has a duff keyboard socket. On boot up, I get "No Keyboard Detected, press F1 to Continue" !!!!!!

Any idea's how to get around this "chicken and egg" problem?

have you tried a usb keyboard?

I considered a USB keyboard, but it means an 80 mile round trip to PC World, and I wanted a lazy Sunday.

I'm just trying to see if there is anything else damaged about this particular computer before I start spending serious money.

Thanks for the tip, just wondered if there was a simpler method.

It is possible to start A pc without a keyboard, as we a mail servers at work, and it has no keyboard, mouse or screen, just a modem.

however in your case, it sounds like the bios is set to 'halt on keyboard error' or words to that effect. so it detects that there is a keyboard error and halts. unfortunatly, to change the bois setting, you would need a keyboard. As you say, a chicken and egg situation.
