Start up without signing in

Some time ago I was told how to boot up my computer without the 'user' log-on screen appearing. Although I don't have a password it is annoying when the computer re-boots during the night after an update and I have to press enter in the morning to get it to complete the operation. I am not sure if the instructions for avoiding this were in a programme or are they somewhere in Windows itself. I am using XP SP2 if that makes any difference. Many thanks in advance.
