i recently had to do a reinstall of xp home. i installed NET Framework 2.0 only leaving out the 1.1 version, thinking i didnt need it. the pc started ok with the blue welcome screen showing only the word welcome and then progress to the desk top.
i later read on this forum that some programmes still needed version 1.1 which i downloaded. the blue welcome screen now includes a user icon which i have to click before the desk top will appear. is there anyway i can go back to the simple welcome screen.

If you are the only user on the PC and you wish windows to go straight to your desktop, then,
When your logged on go to
Start > Run > and type in
control userpasswords2
click OK
on the resukting window, remove the tick from the box
Users must enter a username and password to use this computer
click apply > OK
