Start up problems XP

  puma22 13:19 02 Sep 2006

Hi, I hope someone can help here. I have a problem on start up and the PC keeps rebooting.
I then get an error message
Notorn goback
System unstable...
Could be a bug... or harware problem...
Need to scandisk
Code OX15

I have gone into diagnostics and checked the fan and disk and all seems to be OK.
The only way i am using the PC is that i have disabled norton goback.
I dont know how to get into safe mode so havnt tried anything there

I tried to run sfc/ scannow but the pc shut down in the middle of it.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

System is
XP home
1GB ram
250 HDD

Thanks for the links. Taff's link is exactly what i have happening here, so am now running chkdsk and will post back with the results.

OK.. have now run chkdsk, but how do I know that everything is OK as no report came up when it finished?
do you think I should just get rid of norton goback? If so, can anyone recommend an alternative?

If no report came up I suspect you`re OK. Try and run sfc /scannow again.

Many thanks, ran sfc/scannow and all seems to be OK. Keeping my fingesrs crossed!

I think i may get rid of goback. Has anyone any idea of what i should use instead?
