Does anybody know how I can start MSN Messenger so that it signs in but remains minimized to system tray.

I want to start it, but I don't want to see the
main window with the contact list until I choose to restore it to normal size.

Is there a command line option?

Thanks in advance for your help

go into options and in the general bit theres a box that says "open messenger main window when messenger starts"

UNTICK THE BOX

Thanks. I'm running MSN Messenger 7 and that option is greyed out so I can't deselect it. I was wondering if there is another way to get round this.

I've found a way, so here it is for anyone else that's interested

The following registry entry will do the trick

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger]
"AppSettings"=hex:12,80,02,00

the first part (12) is the crucial bit. if it is hex 22, the main window will load maximised again.

I'm using MSN messenger 7.0.429 (public Beta)

i'm using msn messenger 7 aswell but that bit aint greyed out on mine
