Start up disk

I want to format the hard drive on an IBM Thinkpad running Win98SE that has terminal software problems. I want to create a startup disk (floppy) containing the CD rom drivers etc and have tried doing this through the Control Panel (create startup disk utility). However, it asks me to insert the Win98SE CD, which I don't have. Should it be doing this?

What is your goal?

As you don't have Win98, do you have a different OS you want to install.

You can get a bootable floppy disk from click here

Win2k forward will allow you to boot with the CD if the laptop supports this.

Obvious question about the OS. I am passing the laptop on to someone else who I believe will be loading XP onto it. I said it would be ready to load whatever they wished. Thanks for the help.
