My PC has started displaying the following on start-up:

"An Error Occurred Reading The Start-Up Configuration File. Please Consuly Your Administrator

Syntax Error: Illegal Charachter: "

there then follows three lines of figures and letters.

I do not run a network or have a network or have a network card installed.

I'm running W98 V4.10.2222 A.

Any thoughts anyone??

Are you using Netscape?

spikeychris hit the nail on the head with this problem!

I wondered if Netscape 7.01 might have been the cause of the problem as it had been constantly imploring me to register on its Network.

I've removed v 7.01 and gone back to my trusted old v4.6 and the problem has disappeared at last.

Many thanks,
