start up

Today, on starting up my computer, I was faced with a black, blank screen. I pressed restart and my computer than started up, but with the cursor resting on "start windows normally". I pressed Enter and then everything went as normal. Is there any reason I should be concerned about why my computer did this in the first place. I closed down yesterday in the correct way and have seen no special signs of trouble over recent days.

See if it starts up properly if you shut it down completely, rather than pressing the restart button. It is possible that the drive is not spinning up quickly enough to start loading Windows, whereas with a "restart" the drive is already spinning. If this is the case, it could indicate a failing hard drive and you should ensure you have a backup of all of your important data.

On the other hand, it could just be a "one-time" glitch that you won't see again.
