Standby and broadband?

I've been with virgin broadband a couple of days now and everythings ok, apart from my pc keeps coming out of standby by itself. I have always left it on standby throughout the day and never had a problem on dial up. I'm worried because if i'm out the house all day and it powers up, then my internet connection is right there waiting to be compromised. At the moment, i'm disabling the connection when not in use, but i'd rather it just stay in standby mode.

if you have adequate protection it should not pose a prob, why not go green when you are out and switch it off;)

Use Hibernate rather than Standby - it also Saves all your settings and any open windows so that they are immediately available when you bootup again.

If you have a power failure during Standby you could/can lose any unsaved data.

My router is permanently switched on and I've never had any issues.

Thanks for the tip Stuartli, I hadn't thought of hibernate, but it works a treat for what I want! :-)

Find the Network/Ethernet card in Device Manager, Properties, Power Management. There is an option 'Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby'.

Hibernate is still the best option..:-)
