Standard CD-ROM drives?

  Templar1961 21:52 05 Feb 2004

I am trying to identify the CD R/RW drive in my Packard Bell imedia 5206. Right clicking on the drive (in My Computer) and properties brings up the manufacturer as Standard CD-ROM drives? The Packard Bell website click here shows a Philips model CDRW Philips CDD4851 that looks like its the one?

Can this be confirmed without looking inside? I am wanting to check compatibility with Driveimage 7.

Try looking in device manager or system information.

Belarc Advisor (similar to AIDA) says:

IDE-CD R/RW 12x8x32

Not much information?

If the above didn't get the info you need, you may have to look inside.

If so, look on the rear of the drive for an FCC-ID number click here

This should establish the make & model of the drive for you.

The make will be on top of the drive

hugh-265156 23:46 05 Feb 2004 old philips/packard bell cdrw is not identified by aida32 or belarc as woodchip and bloo meeny above, check the label on the drive to be sure.

When you burn a disk using Nero it names the rewriter being used in the burn panel (as well as a CD/DVD-ROM drive if you use it at the same time).

Howevever, System Information will provide you with the same details - it is a comprehensive, fully detailed and constantly updated analysis of your entire system.

Most Philips drives are rebadged models from a range of specialist manufacturers over recent years.
