SSID BROADCAST PROBLEMS

Hi,
Decided to disable my SSID Broadcast and thought it would be a simple task :( Got that wrong !!
All seemed ok until i had to go out earlier so i switched off the Wireless button on the Lappy, Don't like it connected to the net whilst away (Remote programes give me the willies) and was in the middle of a HD Drive scan so didn't want to stop the process.
Got back in and tried to connect to my router but it didn't show up in the list of available networks to connect to...I guess that's because i had disabled my SSID so that worked, But the only way to get re/connected was to Enable SSID.. Now call me stupid but i thought me Lappy would still connect without the SSID broadcast enabled ??
Am i doing something seriously daft or what ?

WIN XP SP2
LINKSYS WAG54GS

I get the usuall Linksys connection drops, But this is getting up my nose !

Why turn off the SSID if it is to aid security just change the name to something that you will know but does not refer to the make of the router.

click here read the section on security myths!!
